My artwork highlights human nature and our impact on the world. The Sugarcane collection in particular is a prototype of this and speaks to a time in which African slaves were used to farm the sugar plantations which became an integral building block of our society. I find that our use—and often abuse—of nature connect to our global abuse of Black Americans and the African diaspora to this day.
